The Imperial Comprehensive Cognitive Assessment in Cerebrovascular Disease

Our approach

We are a group of clinicians and researchers with an interest in cognitive recovery in patients with cerebrovascular disease. These patients include those who have had a stroke or those who have a high risk of having a stroke for example following a mini stroke (known as Transient Ischaemic Attack). We know that these patients often show changes in their cognitive brain function such as difficulties with reasoning, memory, language or number skills. Our aim is to understand exactly why some patients exhibit these difficulties and what factors may worsen them. Through this study we hope to understand how to predict the trajectory of recovery of cognitive functions and to target interventions more precisely. To achieve this, we have carefully designed a comprehensive set of tests and questions that can be completed from the comfort of your own home and which will build a detailed picture of each person's cognitive profile. Currently, we welcome both patients with cerebrovascular disease and healthy individuals to complete our tests.

After you are assigned your “unique” Participant ID, we will ask “a few” general and clinical questions which include aspects such as age, gender and medical history

Step 3

Cognitive Assessment

Here, you will play several computerized games that will test different facets of cognition such as memory, language, numerical skills, attention and reasoning

Step 4

emotion-peach-2.png

Mood and Fatigue Testing

Then, we will ask you to complete a set of questions about your lifestyle, mood and behaviour

After the test is finished

Obtain a Detailed Cognitive Profile*

Upon completion of all tests, you will receive a summary of your performance for each task you played. This will give you an idea of how well you scored on different aspects of cognition.

*Until the validation studies end, these scores are for research purposes only and should not be used to inform clinical judgement. Language test results will not be shown as they require additional manual verification of speaking abilities.

Optional Sub-Studies

  • Brain Imaging

You may qualify for a non-invasive MRI scan examining your brain’s health and its ability to learn new vocabulary

  • Blood Biomarkers

You may qualify for research blood tests which look for early signs of memory and thinking difficulties
